Sexual corruption at the US military academies

There are more complaints of sexual attacks at the top US military academies:

January 8, 2016

WASHINGTON (AP) — Reports of sexual assaults at the three military academies surged by more than 50 percent in the 2014-15 school year, and complaints of sexual harassment also spiked, according to documents reviewed by The Associated Press.

A senior defense official says the sharp increases were due largely to students’ growing confidence in the reporting system and expanded awareness programs that over the past several years have included training, videos and information sessions for both students and leaders. The programs have been aimed at making victims more aware of the reporting process and more comfortable seeking help.

But the dramatic increases raise nagging questions about whether criminal assaults and harassment are on the rise or if the numbers actually reflect a growing willingness of victims to come forward.

According to report documents reviewed by the AP, there were 91 reported sexual assaults over the last school year at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, and the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado – compared to 59 during the 2013-14 school year.

Reports of assaults went up at all three of the schools, but the number nearly doubled at the Air Force Academy, jumping from 25 to 49.

At the same time, the number of sexual harassment complaints spiked by 40 percent, to a total of 28 during the last school year. According to the documents, the most sexual harassment complaints were at the Naval Academy, with 13. There were seven at West Point and eight at the Air Force Academy.

Asked about the Air Force increases, officials said the decrease in assaults during the 2013-14 school year may have been an anomaly, and the latest totals were closer to the norm in previous years. Air Force cadets, they said, also seem to be much more aware of the sexual assault prevention and response coordinators on campus and may be more willing to file reports.

The Air Force, however, has seen a number of public sexual assault scandals in recent years, including incidents involving members of academy sports teams.http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_MILITARY_ACADEMIES_SEXUAL_ASSAULTS_BAOL-?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2016-01-08-03-45-44

FWIW, I considered applying to the West Point military academy myself.  The reason I did not was because my high school counselor had never been asked about this before and did not seem to know how to assist me.  So, while I did later enter the military, and was offered an ROTC scholarship after entering, I never did go to West Point.

When I was in the military, the US military did encourage its members to attend church and all those who entered when I did were actually given pocket New Testaments (not directly by the government, but allowed by the government).  Well, that was four decades ago.  Nowadays, the US military has changed in that respect.

Getting back to the assault story, while the military has always had sexual corruption, the shift away from at least the professed acceptance of biblical morality, combined with the addition of more females and homosexuals in the USA military, is making this worse.

The military academies are where the future top military leaders of the USA are trained. And since there is more noticed sexual violance in those academies now, consider how much corruption is going unnoticed.  Also consider the fact that leaders that get through the program have likely also been corrupted by many things that will likely affect their military judgement.

Many think that the military of the USA is too strong to ever be beat militarily, yet that is not the case according to the Bible.  The Europeans will rise up and succeed in taking over the USA according to the Bible (cf. Daniel 11:39).

The Europeans are not comfortable standing by as the USA slowly diverts military protection away from them, while the USA also cuts the size of the Army.

I have taught for years that the USA would switch priorities away from military spending, and this reduction of army troops, as well as presence in Germany, is another confirmation. Notice something I had published in 2009 in my book 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect:

“Because of domestic economic concerns and international pressures, Barack Obama is shifting priorities away from defense spending… This will help lead to the destruction of the United States, when the Europeans are ready and the U.S.A. is not” (Thiel B. 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect. Nazarene Books, 2009, p. 147).

The above has been happening.

The US Air Force announced major cuts since my 2012 book came out(Budget cuts to ground 1/3 of US Air Force); as did the US Navy (Pentagon concerned about additional looming defense cuts–prophetic ramifications?).

A while back, the US Army removed all of it tanks from Germany (There are no longer USA tanks in Germany: Do Americans understand this is a serious risk?). This helps put the USA in a situation that it simply will not be able to effectively react if European forces attack.

In addition to sexual corruption in the military (which has been seen in top leaders), we have seen more and more political corruption with the military leadership in the USA.  That is, military leaders are often going along with policies from Washington, D.C. for reasons of personal advancement as opposed to standing against policies that weaken the USA militarily.

There is a price to pay for the growing corruption of the military leadership of the USA, and this will turn out worse than most Americans believe it will.

As, Jesus said, “Watch” (Mark 13:37).
