Adam Taggart reported the following:
1971: The Year That Changed Everything
The year 1971 saw the trajectories of nearly every major trend relative to our way of life shift massively. …
Be it income… …the cost of living… ….political polarization… … the divorce rate…
…and a kitchen sink’s worth of other statistics — from the national debt to deficit spending, childhood obesity, the incarceration rate, energy use per capita — pretty much all aspects of life as we know it changed materially and permanently in the early 1970s. …
Ben Prentice and Collin, founders of WTFHappenedIn1971.com, explain how virtually all of these changes are a direct or indirect result of the monetary system “breaking” that year with the Nixon Shock and the end of the Bretton Woods System. 09/26/20 https://www.peakprosperity.com/1971-the-year-that-changed-everything/
That’s one explanation.
The other is that was when USA states began to legalize abortion.
Around fifty or so years ago, the abortion industry began to rise up and have legislative success in various US states:
Between 1967 and 1973 one-third of the states liberalized or repealed their criminal abortion laws. However, the right to have an abortion in all states was only made available to American women in 1973 when the Supreme Court struck down the remaining restrictive state laws with its ruling in Roe v. Wade. (History of Abortion. National Abortion Federation. http://www.prochoice.org/about_abortion/history_abortion.html viewed 04/02/13)
Since states began to “liberalize” or repeal anti-abortion laws, the economic situation in the USA began to change (bolding and italics in source):
Until 1970, the United States had a trade surplus and an inflow of money sometimes called a favorable balance of trade. After 1970, for the first time in a century, the United States was buying more goods abroad than it sold. It moved from a trade surplus to a trade deficit, when imports exceed exports, and money was flowing out of the United States in payments to foreign countries for imports. Since 1970, the unfavorable trade balance and trade deficit has grown…
After World War II until 1970, the United States was a creditor nation lending money to other countries. As a creditor nation, other countries owed more money to the United States than the United States owed to foreign countries.
After 1970, the United States became a net debtor nation. As a debtor nation, the United States owes more money to foreign countiress than the foreign countries owe the United States. The United States is now the largest debtor among all nations. (Howard J. Sherman, E. K. Hunt, Reynold F. Nesiba, Phillip Anthony O’Hara. Economics: An Introduction to Traditional and Progressive Views, 7th edition. M.E. Sharpe, 2008, p. 175)
Since 1973, pay and productivity have diverged.
From 1973 to 2016, net productivity rose 73.7 percent, while the hourly pay of typical workers essentially stagnated—increasing only 12.5 percent over 43 years (after adjusting for inflation). This means that although Americans are working more productively than ever, the fruits of their labors have primarily accrued to those at the top and to corporate profits, especially in recent years. (The Productivity–Pay Gap. https://www.epi.org/productivity-pay-gap/ accessed 02/01/18)
Economists like puzzles, and recent economic data have generated a fair share of them. For instance, the U.S. labor market recovery has been underway for years, yet growth in inflation-adjusted wages remains weak. More broadly, the male median wage still is in the general range of where it was in 1973. (https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2018-08-29/the-something-s-not-quite-right-economy)
Average wages, when adjusted for inflation, have remained near where they were in the 1970s … (Semuels A. This Is What Life Without Retirement Savings Looks Like. The Atlantic, February 22, 2018)
It should be pointed out that, although others believe that the line from an overall creditor to debtor nation happened in the 1980s (as opposed to annually which began around 1971), the process began earlier:
March 22, 2010 – Only a few decades ago, the United States was the world’s largest creditor nation. American capital spanned the globe financing all types of investments in virtually every country. But that dominance began to erode in the 1960s … By the 1980s, the inevitable happened. As generations of accumulated wealth disappeared, a line was crossed. America now owed more to the rest of the world than the world owed to it. The United States had become a debtor nation, and it has continued to run up the tab in the decades since. (Turk J. Debtor Nation. http://www.fgmr.com/debtor-nation.html viewed 04/03/13)
The Bible condemns those that shed innocent blood, as that is something that God hates:
So you shall put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you when you do what is right in the sight of the LORD (Deuteronomy 21:9).
These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren (Proverbs 6:16-19).
Their feet run to evil, And they make haste to shed innocent blood; Their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; Wasting and destruction are in their paths. The way of peace they have not known, And there is no justice in their ways; They have made themselves crooked paths; Whoever takes that way shall not know peace (Isaiah 59:7-8).
Thus says the LORD: “Execute judgment and righteousness, and deliver the plundered out of the hand of the oppressor. Do no wrong and do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, or the widow, nor shed innocent blood in this place (Jeremiah 22:3).
“Yet your eyes and your heart are for nothing but your covetousness, For shedding innocent blood, And practicing oppression and violence” (Jeremiah 22:17).
Babies are innocent. Killing them is the shedding of innocent blood.
Abortion is murder, and abortion is wrong.
Notice the following:
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness … 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. (Romans 1:18, 29-32)
ALL the bolded terms above and more apply to the promoters of abortion. Abortion is not fitting.
Promoting and/or approving biblically-condemned actions is dangerous and puts the USA at increasing risk of God’s judgment (Romans 1:32). And some of that judgment is upon us: The rate of USA indebtedness also has greatly accelerated since 2008. And the USA is far and away the most indebted nation of all time.
The Obama-Biden, Trump-Pence, and Biden-Harris Administrations ALL massively increased the debt of the USA.
And while the Trump-Pence Administration did take some anti-abortion steps, the Biden-Harris Administration reversed those where it could and is adamant about pushing the abortion agenda.
Despite the US Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade, massive numbers of abortions are still occurring in the USA–plus, it has also been in the process of promoting sexual immorality internally and internationally.
Since the USA is also the most indebted nation in the history of humankind that does not bode well for the USA (Habakkuk 2:6-8). And that debt continues to increase.
Abortion is wrong. And promoting or simply approving sexual immorality is wrong (cf. Romans 1:18-32).
Yes, since around ‘1971,’ there were several negative shifts. The debt in the USA has been rising massively. And there also have been problems since 9/11/2001 and 2020/2021 with COVID.
There are terrible consequences for sin and instead of properly discouraging sexual immorality abortion increases the tendency towards sin.
While Europe, China, and certain other areas also have abortion and other issues, the reality is that the Bible shows that, for a time, they will do much better than the USA.
So much so that the time is SOON coming when the USA will be no more (watch also Is the USA prophesied to be destroyed by 2028?).
