The situation in Sri Lanka is terrible. Much of the economy has collapsed, fuel is unavailable for most, and food is getting scarce. People are protesting and causing politicians to fear. The Associated Press reports:
Sri Lankan PM agrees to quit amid biggest political turmoil
July 9, 2022
Sri Lanka’s prime minister agreed to resign on Saturday after party leaders in Parliament demanded both he and the embattled president step down on the day protesters stormed the president’s residence and office in a fury over a worsening economic crisis.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said in a voice statement that he will resign when all parties have agreed on a new government.
“Today in this country we have a fuel crisis, a food shortage, we have the head of the World Food Program coming here and we have several matters to discuss with the IMF. Therefore, if this government leaves there should be another government,” he said.
His decision came after the biggest protest yet swept Sri Lanka as tens of thousands of people broke through barricades and entered President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s residence and nearby office to vent their anger against a leader they hold responsible for the nation’s worst crisis. https://apnews.com/article/asia-economy-sri-lanka-074d8194c64572dc80118f88a01df1c2
Although the Prime Minister attempted to improve the situation in Sri Lanka (see Sri Lanka looking to Russia for fuel and assistance), it was too little too late for many there.
With these protests and resignations it looks like it will take even longer for the situation in Sri Lanka to begin to improve.
Over in Japan, a person who made his own gun decided that murdering a former Japanese leader was a good thing for him to do.
Of course, it was not.

Voice of America reported the following:
Abe’s Body Returns to His Tokyo Home as Japan Mourns Slain Former PM
July 9, 2022
A motorcade carrying the body of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe arrived Saturday at his home in the Japanese capital, as police in the western city of Nara where he was assassinated said there had been security flaws.
Mourners gathered at his residence and at the scene of Friday’s attack in Nara, where Japan’s longest-serving modern leader was gunned down in a rare act of political violence while making a campaign speech. The country’s political establishment called the killing an attack on democracy itself.
Police arrested a 41-year-old man immediately after Abe was shot at close range, they said the suspect had used a homemade gun. …
Elections for seats in Japan’s upper house of parliament are going ahead as scheduled Sunday. …
Japanese media reported, citing police sources, that the suspect, Tetsuya Yamagami, had told police he believed Abe was linked to a religious group he blamed for ruining his mother financially and breaking up the family.
Police have not identified the group. …
Abe’s killing “heightens the prospect for stronger turnout and greater support for his Liberal Democratic Party (LDP),” Eurasia Group analysts wrote in a note.
The LDP, where Abe retained considerable influence, had already been expected to gain seats before the assassination.
Abe, 67, served twice as prime minister, stepping down citing ill health on both occasions.
But he remained a member of parliament and influential leader in the LDP after stepping down for the second time in 2020. https://www.voanews.com/a/japanese-mourn-ex-pm-shinzo-abe-a-day-after-his-assassination-/6651745.html
There is a lot of violence in the world.
These seem to be signs consistent with the ride of the second horseman of the Apocalypse.
Those in Sri Lanka, and in many parts of the world, need our prayers and support.
According to Jesus, more “troubles” (Mark 13:8) are expected in many parts of the world.
The solution is not human politicians, but the Kingdom of God.
Pray for God’s Kingdom to come (Matthew 6:10).
