As expected, the Roman Catholic Friedrich Merz of the Christian Democratic Union gained the most support in Germany’s election:

“All the signals we are getting from the USA indicate that interest in Europe is clearly waning and that the willingness to get involved in Europe is decreasing,” Merz told reporters at a press conference on Monday. …

Merz’s task will be complicated by the need to form a coalition with the center-left Social Democrats of outgoing Chancellor Olaf Scholz. He has repeatedly pledged not to work with the far-right anti-immigrant Alternative for Germany party despite their second-place finish. …

The 69-year-old conservative leader heads the center-right Union bloc, which won Germany’s national election with 28.5% of the votes. …

“Friedrich Merz is perhaps the most international chancellor Germany has had since the war — if he becomes chancellor,” said Volker Resing, who wrote the recently published biography “Friedrich Merz: His Path to Power.”
Merz “relies on personal initiative, on the freedom of the individual, on creativity and motivation. And only secondarily on the state,” Resing said. …
Merz … “I have no illusions at all about what is happening from America,” he told supporters. “We are under such massive pressure … my absolute priority now is really to create unity in Europe.” …

LONDON — Before the final votes in Germany‘s election were even counted, Friedrich Merz, the leader of the center-right Christian Democratic Union party, who is set to become the next chancellor, promised a major shift in relations with the U.S.
In a post-election debate, he promised to confront head-on a new reality — that the Trump administration looks to overturn about 80 years of policy and raises the prospect of abandoning security guarantees for Europe.
“My absolute priority will be to strengthen Europe as quickly as possible so that, step by step, we can really achieve independence from the USA,” Merz said Sunday.
Merz added, “I never thought I would have to say something like this on a television program. But after Donald Trump’s statements last week at the latest, it is clear that the Americans, at least this part of the Americans, this administration, are largely indifferent to the fate of Europe.”
Merz’s conservative CDU party emerged as the largest party in Germany’s parliament, the Bundestag, with 28.6% of the vote. The SPD, the party of the incumbent Chancellor Olaf Scholz, came in third place. …
Merz also talked about NATO, suggesting there may even be need to replace the military alliance with a new European security structure.

So, the expected leader of Germany wants more European unity and independence from the USA. He previously also said he would like Germany to lead Europe (see Friedrich Merz says he wants Germany to lead all of Europe).

That again has happened and is one of the unintended consequences of Donald Trump’s statements and policies.

It’s a historic result for the Alternative for Germany party (AfD): just 12 years after the far-right party was founded, it has become the second-largest political force in the country.
With around 20% of the vote, it almost doubled its result from the last federal election in 2021. In eastern Germany, it has even become the strongest political party.
On election night, AfD lead candidate Alice Weidel stressed again that her party is willing to enter into a coalition with the winning center-right alliance of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and its Bavarian sister party, the Christian Social Union (CSU).
At the same time, she lashed out at the CDU’s leader and likely next chancellor, Friedrich Merz.
In reference to Merz’s promise made several years ago to halve the AfD’s vote share, Weidel told her supporters: “They wanted to halve us, but the opposite has happened!”
The AfD managed to shape political discourse during the election campaign with its anti-immigration rhetoric, calling for Germany’s borders to be closed to refugees and asylum-seekers. …
Despite its election success, the AfD’s result has fallen short of the party’s own expectations. Many members had secretly hoped to end up neck-and-neck with the CDU — or even come in first. As a result, the AfD election night party was a bit of a muted affair despite the gains.
The party has been left without options. In a post-election TV debate with the main parties’ top candidates, Merz repeated his rejection of the AfD as a potential coalition partner.
“You can hold out your hand as much as you like, we will not be pursuing the wrong policies for this country,” he said, citing differences on foreign and security policy as the main reason for rejecting cooperation with the AfD. …
Weidel has her eyes set on the future, and has already indicated her availability to be the AfD’s candidate for chancellor at the next election in 2029.

Presuming that Friedrich Merz is not perceived as to have done enough about migrants in the future and/or is perceived as mishandling the economy or other matters, the AfD expects to rise up further.

More attacks by Islamic migrants, particularly from Syrians in Germany tends to get more voters to support the AfD.

The AfD also asserts, “Now it’s time to change that. And that’s only possible with us.” Many are concerned that the AfD’s growing political influence will impact Germany. Can a strong man worse than Adolf Hitler, that the Bible calls the Beast rise up from Germany? Could Europe reorganize with a small backing to put this leader into place? Does the AfD want to make a deal with Russia? Will Germany make a future deal with Russia that would be opposed to the USA? Does the AfD want religion involved to meet its objectives in such a way that it could support the coming King of the North Beast power that the Bible warns will arise in Europe? The rise of AfD reminds some of pre-WWII. We are getting closer and closer to WWIII.

As long time readers of this COGwriter Church of God News page are aware, I have long stated that Europe would push out migrants, particularly Islamic ones.

So, what will happen?

Some migrants will be deported.

Germany has between 800,000 to 1,200,000 Syrian migrants/refugees, to name just one predominantly Islamic set of migrants.

They all do not want to return to Syria.

Notice the following prophecy involving Syrians:

12 The Syrians before and the Philistines behind; And they shall devour Israel with an open mouth. (Isaiah 9:8-9, 11-12)

Syrian refugees are one potential problem. The Bible clearly is prophesying problems from some Syrians and some Palestinians. ‘Israel’ includes some of the nations in Europe, like France (see The ‘Lost Tribe’ of Reuben: France in Prophecy? and Anglo – America in Prophecy & the Lost Tribes of Israel).

Eventually, Europe will reach a breaking point and change.

A totalitarian leader, one much more extreme than Friedrich Merz or the AfD, will be selected to rule all of Europe.

Democracy will be completely abandoned in Europe.

The Bible shows that Europe will reorganize and a totalitarian leader will emerge:

12 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. (Revelation 17:12-13, NKJV)

The final European Beast leader, who is also known as the final King of the North, will ultimately promote his religion (Daniel 11:36-38; which will not be Islam, he will at first feign and claim a form of Roman Catholicism). He will make a deceptive deal with the leader of a confederation of peoples in North Africa and the Middle East (cf. Daniel 11:27; Psalm 83:3-8).

He will one day lead a successful attack against the USA (Daniel 11:39) and its British-descended allies (cf. Isaiah 10:5-11).

The current refusal by the expected new chancellor Friedrich Merz to not work with the AfD will not stop biblical prophecies from being fulfilled.
