In November 2022, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave its initial approval (with two almost automatic approvals to come) for the sale and consumption of what is called 'lab-grown chicken.' The FDA said that this material was safe and part of what it termed a " food revolution." Is what was approved actually a chicken? Is this consistent with those who are "inventors of evil things" (Romans 1:30)? Have lab-grown meat and genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) been proven to be safe in all ways and for sufficient lengths of time? Should human-animal chimeras be encouraged? Are there scriptures in the Bible that warn about love of money and that point to not eating something just because it may appear good to eat? Does the Bible mention that living organisms were to reproduce after their own kind? Does the Bible say to eat that which is good in Isaiah? Steve Dupuie and Dr. Thiel go over these matters.
NP: FDA Declares Lab-Grown Chicken ‘Safe to Eat’
News Punch reported the following:
FDA Declares Lab-Grown Chicken ‘Safe to Eat’
November 20, 2022
Describing the development as “a food revolution,” the FDA claim that the chicken, which is developed by Berkeley, California-based food-tech firm Upside Foods and is produced using animal cell culture technology that takes living cells from chickens and grows the cells in a controlled environment, is safe to eat. …
Although two more steps must follow before the FDA can grant the product full approval, the agency’s language suggests the approval is a foregone conclusion. …
Experts who spoke to The Defender also questioned the safety of lab-grown meat, which is produced with gene-edited cells, and some scientists argued that, despite claims to the contrary, the production process for lab-grown “meats” is energy-intensive and not, as advertised, beneficial to the environment.
Some also questioned Upside Foods’ connections to figures and entities such as Cargill, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Richard Branson, Kimbal Musk, brother of Elon Musk and co-founder of The Kitchen, “a growing family of businesses that pursues an America where everyone has access to real food,” and the World Economic Forum (WEF). …
In an exclusive interview with The Defender, Jaydee Hanson, policy director for the Center for Food Safety, questioned the FDA’s “pre-market consultation”:
“The FDA regulatory process in general relies on company testing of their products.
“The FDA, in this case, seemed to mostly review what the company sent them, but did not require additional tests and did not require the company to disclose its methods in a complete and transparent manner.” https://newspunch.com/fda-declares-lab-grown-chicken-safe-to-eat/
‘Safe to eat’ does not mean that it is healthy or that it has been tested long-term to determine possible interactions with various biological processes.
‘Safe to eat’ basically means people do not appear sick when they first eat it and that it does not cause cancer in lab animals given it for a short period of time.
The Bible warns:
11 Because the sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. (Ecclesiastes 8:11)
Just because there may not be immediate consequences to consuming lab-grown chicken, that does not mean it is safe.
Now, God knew humans would be able to do such things, and that is one of the reasons He confused people with additional languages at the Tower of Babel:
6 And the Lord said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them. 7 Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.” (Genesis 11:6-7)
The language confusion slowed down human inventiveness, but we continue to see horrible inventions.
And, actually, that was warned against in scripture:
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. (Romans 1:28-32)
In various parts of the world, including in parts of Canada, government officials do not like to see the above verses quoted.
In many ways, GMOs, fake meat, and laboratory produced chicken meat could be considered as evil inventions.
They were not produced for optimal health, but mainly out of financial greed.
The Bible warns:
10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (1 Timothy 6:10)
Related to fake lab grown meat, the SGT Report posted the following this past Summer:
Fake meat grown in labs might make investors rich, but it’s a nightmare for human health
July 3, 2022
The inputs used to make cell-cultured “meat,” which can hardly be called meat at all, are so unknown in terms of their effects on the human body that it truly is a crime against humanity for the stuff to be gradually making its way into the food supply.
Currently, fake meat is only available to consumers in Singapore. But there are effects to get it into the meat cases in North America and elsewhere in the not-too-distant future, which worries Michael Hansen, a senior staff scientist at Consumer Reports.
Differing from the fake meat offered by companies like Impossible Foods, lab-cultured meat involves the use of bio-engineered proteins to artificially induce undifferentiated animal stem cells into differentiating into muscle tissue. …
In order to make lab-cultured meat, Hansen said, recombinants or manipulated DNA segments must be inserted into the biopsied flesh of animals. And the end product has never actually been tested for nutritional content, as academics have never received a single sample for testing.
“This implies problems behind the scenes,” Hansen said. “I doubt this technology will work.” …
Just like genetically modified organisms (GMOs), lab-cultured meat is also a proprietary thing that is owned and patented by private corporations rather than available to the general public like real plant seeds and real animals. At least 70 different companies are trying to get into the lab-cultured meat businesses at this very moment. And many more, if they see enough dollar-sign potential, are likely to pile in as well. https://www.sgtreport.com/2022/07/fake-meat-grown-in-labs-might-make-investors-rich-but-its-a-nightmare-for-human-health/
No, laboratory-grown cells are not producing the same ‘meat’ product as actually-raised animals do.
This is another example of money influencing food production. It looks like meat and tastes like real meat, but it is not.
There simply have not been sufficient studies to prove proper safety and health impacts, nor is it practical to do them. In order to do this, millions of people would need to be involved. And the time period would need to be enough to cover 3-5 generations–it would probably need to take between 200-400 years to be able to have the data to come to a proper scientific conclusion about that. And, of course, that has not happened. Nor will that happen.
The Bible warns:
12 There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. (Proverbs 14:12)
Just because something appears to be a real food does not mean that it is good you you–even if you think it may be. Remember the following:
1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.'”
4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. (Genesis 3:1-6)
Notice that Eve concluded that the fruit she saw and ate looked to be good and beneficial food–but it was not. While they did not immediately die, they died (Genesis 5:5) as God warned (Genesis 2:17), despite the serpent telling them they would not.
That said, there is another type of artificial meat is a vegetarian alternative to meat. Here is something from 2019:
June 20, 2019
In January, Impossible Foods launched the Impossible Burger 2.0. The company has stated that the new burger is “tastier, juicier, and more nutritious”—featuring 40% less saturated fat than the old recipe, and just as much protein as 80/20 ground beef from cows. The new product is also gluten-free, replacing wheat with soy protein. Unfortunately, the Impossible Burger might just be too good to be true. At Center for Food Safety, we encourage consumers to eat less meat and choose plant-based proteins, but we believe that replacing conventional animal products with ultra-processed, poorly studied, and under-regulated genetically engineered products is NOT the solution to our factory farm and climate crisis. Here’s the science to back this up.
The Science
The Impossible Burger is manufactured from two different methods of genetically engineering soy products. This “impossible in nature” union is neither healthier nor more environmentally friendly than other kinds of non-meat burgers. While Impossible Foods, the company behind the Impossible Burger, has been trying to spin its product as both healthier and more sustainable than those of its competitors, a quick examination of the company’s own data suggests otherwise.
1. The first kind of genetic engineering in the “Impossible Burger” is found in the soy used for the protein in the “burger” itself.
Rather than starting with organic soy beans, which have higher levels of protein and lower levels of Omega 6 fatty acids (the bad Omega), the company chose to use GMO soybeans, probably because they are cheaper than the organic beans. …
2. The second kind of genetic engineering of soy produces the “heme” that makes the Impossible Burger “bleed.” In order to manufacture its burgers, Impossible Foods takes DNA from the roots of soy plants, where a small amount of “heme” is produced, and inserts it into genetically engineered yeast that is then fermented to mass-produce heme. This is the first time that people have consumed this product. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is supposed to require testing in this situation to make sure that this novel protein does not cause allergic reactions in people. Unfortunately, instead of requiring Impossible Foods to file a new Food Additive Petition, FDA allowed the company to use a weak regulatory process called “Generally Recognized As Safe” (GRAS) where the company does its own research and chooses its own reviewers to self-certify that its product is safe for human consumption. Center for Food Safety has a lawsuit challenging the GRAS food additive loophole that the Impossible Burger went through, allowing it and many other novel food substances to unlawfully evade government analysis and approval before coming to market. https://www.centerforfoodsafety.org/blog/5628/our-beef-with-the-gmo-impossible-burger?gclid=CjwKCAiAyfybBhBKEiwAgtB7fuOW8LTOLoxZWi_hWiFw52QiQVeS2h1gzg3wNxbvo1MwoW1YpQZmOhoC_TkQAvD_BwE
What Are GMOs?
GMOs are Genetically-Modified Organisms. Basically scientists change the genetic code of a plant or animal, often by including part of the genetic code of a different species into it.
Here is one definition and comments:
What are GMOs?
GMOs, or “genetically modified organisms,” are plants or animals that have been genetically engineered with DNA from bacteria, viruses or other plants and animals. These experimental combinations of genes from different species cannot occur in nature or in traditional crossbreeding.Virtually all commercial GMOs are engineered to withstand direct application of herbicide and/or to produce an insecticide. Despite biotech industry promises, none of the GMO traits currently on the market offer increased yield, drought tolerance, enhanced nutrition, or any other consumer benefit. http://www.nongmoproject.org/learn-more/
GMOs (also referred to as genetically-engineered foods) are intended to increase crop yield and tend to support the profitability of a USA-based company called Monsanto (and another company, the Switzerland-based Syngenta).
Those GMOs involving animals, especially two or more different animal species are called chimeras (see also Chimeras: Has Science Crossed the Line?).
Notice the following from the University of Minnesota:
Chimeras are animals composed of cells that originate from two (or more) different species. In the research lab, chimeras are created by introducing cells from one species into the developing embryo or fetus of another. Now, researchers are developing human-animal chimeras to study disease processes, test new drugs, and develop organs for future transplant patients. The chimeras are produced by introducing human stem cells into developing animal embryos…Hybrids and chimeras are biologically different. A cell from a chimera contains the genetic material of either one parent species or the other. While each cell from a hybrid animal, such as a mule, contains genetic material from both parent species…Because human-animal chimeras contain human cells—or even tissues or organs that are primarilyhuman—ethical concerns surround the question of just what or who chimeras are. Because they were created under laboratory conditions for research purposes, are chimeras lab animals? Or, will chimeras eventually be developed that are too human to be considered otherwise? http://www.ahc.umn.edu/img/assets/25857/chimeras.pdf
So, chimeras are a combination of genes from two species which somewhat make a new species.
There have long been concerns that this is wrong.
Back on January 31, 2006, then US President George W. Bush proposed banning genetic experiments involving humans with animals. Here is what he said to Congress in his State of the Union address:
Tonight I ask you to pass legislation to prohibit the most egregious abuses of medical research — human cloning in all its forms, creating or implanting embryos for experiments, creating human-animal hybrids, and buying, selling, or patenting human embryos. Human life is a gift from our Creator – and that gift should never be discarded, devalued, or put up for sale. https://www.nrlc.org/federal/killingembryos/sotu2006bancloning/
That ban never happened in the USA. Now more and more experiments are happening to produce what are called chimeras.
Over in Tokyo, they are developing artificial wombs for humans from goats:
The artificial womb exists. In Tokyo, researchers have developed a technique called EUFI — extrauterine fetal incubation. They have taken goat fetuses, threaded catheters through the large vessels in the umbilical cord and supplied the fetuses with oxygenated blood while suspending them in incubators that contain artificial amniotic fluid heated to body temperature. …
And Arthur L. Caplan, director of the Center for Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania, takes it a step further. Thirty years from now, he speculates, we will have solved the problem of lung development; neonatology will be capable of saving 15- and 16-week-old fetuses. There will be many genetic tests available, easy to do, predicting the risks of acquiring late-onset diseases, but also predicting aptitudes, behavior traits and aspects of personality. There won’t be an artificial womb available, but there will be lots of prototypes, and women who can’t carry a pregnancy will sign up to use the prototypes in experimental protocols. Caplan also predicts that ”there will be a movement afoot which says all this is unnecessary and unnatural, and that the way to have babies is sex and the random lottery of nature a movement with the appeal of the environmental movement today.” Sixty years down the line, he adds, the total artificial womb will be here. ”It’s technologically inevitable. Demand is hard to predict, but I’ll say significant.” (http://worldtruth.tv/the-artificial-womb-is-born-welcome-to-the-world-of-the-matrix/ viewed 02/23/15)
There is a lot of genetic cloning mixing human and non-human DNA–this should not happen.
A lot of GMO plants are chimeric in that they include animal genes to originally produce.
Monsanto and USA government officials tends to insist that GMOs are safe.
But they really have not been fully tested.
We have seen rises in autoimmune diseases, mental health conditions, allergies, and autism–the mainstream generally says that the causes are unknown–yet they must have a cause. Perhaps improper changes to the food supply and/or environment may be factors?
Consider that when God created everything in Genesis 1, He said everything He made was good:
31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. (Genesis 1:31)
Notice how God made the creation:
11 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. (Genesis 1:11-12)
20 Then God said, “Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens.” 21 So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” (Genesis 1:20-22)
24 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so. 25 And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. (Genesis 1:24-25)
GMOs are about stopping life from reproducing after its own kind. This clearly violates Genesis 1:22. But that is what GMOs are all about. Lab-grown meat is basically in the same category.
The Continuing Church of God (CCOG) is pleased to announce the following video on our Bible News Prophecy YouTube channel:
GMOs, Lab meat, Hydrogenation: Safe or Dangerous?
Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) have been in the US food supply for over 20 years. Are they safe? Which ten GMO plants are now widely commercially available? What about laboratory-grown ‘meat’? Hydrogenated trans-fatty acid products have been consumed for over 100 years. Are they safe? Certain scientists claim that the data proves the safety of GMOs and lab-meat. But do they have enough data? Are the proponents of GMOs and lab-meat driven by data or greed? How long is long enough to test these ‘foods’? Can overly processed foods lead to type 2 diabetes or dementia? Are there allergy, gene-transfer, and outcrossing risks with GMOs? What risks does the World Health Organization say that GMOs pose? Do studies involving animals show real dangers with GMOs? On June 11, 2019, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order reducing government oversight over GMO plants and animals. Was this wise or dangerous? Is the food supply at any risk? What did Jesus teach? What does the Bible teach that God’s people should eat?
Here is a link to the video: GMOs, Lab meat, Hydrogenation: Safe or Dangerous?
Thousands of years ago, God inspired one of his prophets to pen the following, which encourages people to eat what is good:
2 Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And let your soul delight itself in abundance. (Isaiah 55:2)
Intentionally eating GMOs and lab-grown meat, in my view, is something people should try to avoid. I do not think that GMOs are good food.
Those type of developments are putting the food supply of the USA at risk. So are things like lab-grown ‘meat,’ which is different than things like the Impossible Burger.
Instead of having an animal grow, lab-grown meat is a bunch of cells grown in a laboratory–this is simply not the same as meat from an actual animal.
Jesus warned about a time of sorrows and famines:
7…And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. (Matthew 24:7-8)
Could a massive loss of crops due to the reliance on genetically-modified organisms be a factor for this type of famine and the ultimate destruction of the USA and its Anglo-allies? This is a very real possibility.
The Bible warns:
13 But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. (2 Timothy 3:13)
Sadly, many who defend GMOs are deceived and truly do not properly represent true science, or what is “false called knowledge” (cf. 1 Timothy 6:20).
Update 11/27/22: We just uploaded a new video on this:
In November 2022, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave its initial approval (with two almost automatic approvals to come) for the sale and consumption of what is called ‘lab-grown chicken.’ The FDA said that this material was safe and part of what it termed a ” food revolution.” Is what was approved actually a chicken? Does the Bible mention that living organisms were to reproduce after their own kind? Does the Bible say to eat that which is good in Isaiah? Steve Dupuie and Dr. Thiel go over these matters.
Here is a link to our video: Lab grown chicken?
GMOs and lab-grown meat are not real food. Humans are supposed to eat real foods. GMOs and lab-grown meat are potentially harmful and a major risk.
Do not be deceived.
